Time for Me to Write ...

OK so my husband finally showed me how to log onto this thing to create new posts, so watch out blogging world, here comes RB. A lot has happened in the past couple of months since the David Lee Roth stalking, I mean, sighting. So I'll try to quickly fill you in.

For starters, my friends and I saw Rascal Flatts at the Sprint Center and they were sooo good! I must admit I am NOT a huge RF fan, and don't listen to a ton of country music, but my friends wanted to go so I tagged along and was presently surprised. They rocked the hizzouse. :)

This fall we also celebrated my 34th birthday ... SAY IT ISN'T SO!! When did we get so OLD?! This one in particular was hard on me for some reason ... feeling like I'm officially in my mid-3os is just a little bit terrifying. For my birthday, I had an awesome sushi dinner with my girlfriends and then went dancing. (Yes to try to feel young again, I think ... but it only helped to make me feel even OLDER so it totally backfired ...)

On my birthday, Mike surprised me with two tickets to see Dane Cook ... he is one of my favorites who makes me laugh so hard. He was also at the Sprint Center.

Are you seeing a trend here?! The Sprint Center just opened in Sept and we've already been to two concerts, two basketball games (KU and K-State) and a comedian's show. We are definitely trying to keep the place in business. And I constantly remind Mike of that since he voted DOWN the building of the arena when it was on the KC ballots 2 years ago. He thought it was "silly" to spend so much money on an arena when we don't have a sports team to support it. He does have a point, but it seems we have gotten TONS of use out of it already without the team. I told him 2 years ago that since he voted against it he could never go to an event there ... and obviously that mandate didn't last long...

Seriously it's been so nice to have it added to our downtown scene. It's such a great arena and has already brought so many amazing acts to KC that we've never had before ... Elton John, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Rascal Flatts, Van Halen and Ozzy (whoo hoo!) ... and we're getting so many more in 2008. It's amazing and I'm so thankful we have it ... you guys should come check it out! Any one of you is welcome to come to KC to visit and have fun in our exciting new downtown!! Bon Jovi/Daughtry is coming in April, Celine Dion in November ... any takers?

Finally, this fall we celebrated Thanksgiving. Well, I should say I celebrated it with my family in Des Moines. Unfortunately, Mike was coming back from a long trip on the east coast and got stuck at the O'Hare airport in a snowstorm on Wed night. His flight to Des Moines was canceled :( so he caught a flight to KC instead. He and his mom celebrated Thanksgiving Day with a meal at Cracker Barrel, while I got to meet my brother's new girlfriend, Tammie at the family gathering in Des Moines. I love her already ... she is such a good fit for him! She had fun playing with my aunt's new puppy, while Katie and my dad looked on...

My grandma is still at Luther Park retirement home, but she made it over for Thanksgiving Day. She is doing well but really missing my grandpa, as this is her first holiday season without him. She prays that he is up in heaven watching over us, and I have to agree. :) OK that's probably more than enough for now ... will write more soon with a Christmas update!!

Long Time, No Blog

Well, its been a while since we have updated this blog. Thanks to the prodding of some friends and family we are going to try an update this a little more regularly. Mmmmm, we'll see what happens. When we last posted, Robin had braved humilation and won two tickets to the reunion tour of Van Halen. Robin's cousin Jeff (a die-hard Van Halen fan) from NY flew in for the concert and a "weekend o' fun."

We began the visit with Jeff and I attending the VH concert; which is one the of the best concerts I have seen in the last decade (yes, much better than the U2 tribute band I saw at the KC Irish Festival). The concert was amazing, you just know it is going to be a good concert when the lead guitarist starts the show with no shirt. Thanks again to my darling wife for giving us the opportunity to participate in this historic event.

After the concert, we traveled to Columbia Missouri (home to the University of Missouri) to spend a weekend with the Jeff's family, the Earleys. Thanks to Jeff's dad we attended the Mizzou football game in his company's corporate suite. We had a blast at the game and even got the chance to meet a former celebrity, Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years!

We returned back to Casa d'Earley for some food, fun and fire. It seems that we had perfectly timed our visit to participate in the annual brush burning on the farm. The interesting part about the fire is that Jeff used it as an opportunity to burn his personal paperwork (e.g., bills, credit card statements, and junk mail) that he had accumulated in NY. Apparently, a paper shredder seems a little odd, compared to saving all your mail for six months, transporting it via rail, car, and plane to your parent's house and then burning it. All in all it was great weekend and we had an awesome time hanging with family.

Go Ahead and Jump

Well, it appears that we have quite the rock star in our family as Robin won grand prize! It turns out that the competition was pretty stiff in the rock apparel category so Robin stepped it up a little with a blistering air guitar performance to Van Halen's "Jump" in front of her office. The photo pretty much sums it up.......yep that's Robin on the floor performing. Who knows, maybe we have unleashed some hidden talent.

Rock of Love

After much prodding by friends and family we (the Broder family) have decided to create our own blog. Since we are not still in college "finding ourselves" or have any kids to create a virtual scrapbook you are subject to our random experiences and thoughts.

Take today for instance, my beautiful wife Robin has successfully transformed herself into a 1984 glam rock chick in our sorry attempt to win tickets to the Van Halen (David Lee Roth is back) tour coming to Kansas City. Both us felt as if we were transported back to a simpler time, a time when rock and roll ruled the airwaves and jersey girl hair (complete with a full can of aqua net hairspray) was high fashion. Where did Tawny Kitaen go?
